Children will attend their daily phonics groups based on their most recent assessment. During sessions, they will continue to develop their knowledge and application of phonics in both reading and spelling. They will read a variety of stories, specifically tailored to them, alongside their peers in paired reading activities.
Children who have come off the phonics programme will focus on developing their knowledge of common spelling rules and will be challenged to answer a range of comprehension questions linked to their texts.
Maths
In maths this half term, the children are learning about addition and subtraction. They will explore different ways to add and subtract numbers, using practical resources, pictures and number lines to support their learning. The children will develop their confidence in solving number problems, recalling number facts and explaining their mathematical thinking.
Science
In Year 1 Science, the children are learning about seasonal changes, focusing on autumn and winter. They will explore how the weather changes, observe changes in trees and plants, and notice how the length of the day changes throughout the year. The children will develop their observation skills and learn to identify and describe the features of each season.

In Year 1 Geography, the children are learning about maps and exploring their local area. They will develop their understanding of simple maps, recognise familiar places and landmarks, and use basic directional language to describe locations. The children will also begin to create their own simple maps and develop their geographical skills by exploring the world around them.
RE
We will be learning about Christianity. The theme is The Christmas Story.
Key Questions explored throughout this unit of work:
